My inspiration for opening Tranquility came as rush for me. I have been riding the wave ever since.
In December 2005 I was settling into another chapter of my 11-year career in finance as a Portfolio Manager of a large pension fund. In addition to working full time, I had been preparing to take my first Chartered Financial Analyst exam for about 6 months and was fairly stressed out and overloaded.
I traveled to Denver for the exam and visited an old friend and wonderful body-worker, Becky for a massage. While catching up with Becky on the massage table she told me about a day spa in Denver offering something called Floatation or Sensory Deprivation. I had never heard of it, and had no real clue what it was but Becky thought it would help me in my current state of anxiety and the thought of floating in a pool of warm salt water with no gravity on my bones reminded me of a trip I had taken to the Dead Sea in Israel. I remembered how wonderful it had felt to just lie back and relax without any chance of sinking. As soon as my massage was over I called A New Spirit Day Spa and scheduled my first floatation session for the next day. Little did I know that this one action would change my life so dramatically!
My first experience in a floatation tank was extremely profound, not because of what happened while I was inside the tank, but because of what happened after I got out of the tank.
I loved the whole experience of being in the tank. It was odd and fun and intensely relaxing all at the same time. When my time was up, I asked the spa attendant who knocked on the tank door if I could purchase another hour. Unfortunately the tank was booked solid, not only for that day, but also for the remainder of my stay in Denver.
I went back to my hotel and as I was walking to my room I realized that I could hear and hone in on several different conversations that were happening in the lobby. The people weren’t talking loud but I could here them clearly and focus on them individually or simultaneously. I remember wondering if I was actually experiencing improved hearing or if I was just more aware of my immediate environment due to a reduction in my stress and tension level. I got into my room and looked in the mirror. I was amazed to see how vibrant my eyes looked. The bags I had had under my eyes for months had disappeared...I looked great..and happy! That evening I worked from my hotel room and had more clarity and creative energy than I had experienced in years.
From that day forward, the first thing I did when traveling was check for a float center in the area. After visiting several float centers in the US, I knew without a doubt that this powerful tool could help change peoples lives for the better, whether it be through pain relief, enhanced creativity and mental clarity, or any number of other benefits that I myself have experienced. I suddenly felt compelled to do my part to bring this technology to as many people as I could. Within one month of my first float I resigned from my career and began working towards the opening of Tranquility. It has been a magical journey and
I invite you to join in.
